Emperor Casino Shootout
The Emperors Palace casino on the East Rand in Johannesburg is usually a place where people go to have a good time and hopefully win some money at the slot machines. Known as the “Las Vegas of South Africa”, it is a well known casino on the national scene and home to a hotel resort attracting more than just gamblers. No one could have expected what was about to go down when a group of heavily armed men attempted to rob the casino.
The action started when local police received a tip that the casino was about to be robbed. Police arrived on the scene and confronted the group of suspects at the casino entrance, but the armed robbers decided not to go down without a fight. A dangerous shootout commenced leaving 2 robbers injured, whilst a stray bullet grazed the head of a 5 year old girl who was staying with her family at the hotel. Luckily she’ll be OK after being rushed to the hospital. Outside the casino, police found 5 more robbers waiting in the getaway car who were also arrested.
The total arrest count from this ordeal stood at 14, police also recovered three AK-47 assault rifles, and five hand guns.
